Well, I have uploaded the blog entries I wrote since being here and now I can start writing about life as it happens.
Here for a start is a view of our apartment:
Quite a few members of staff from Sandra’s school are located here. It is rather splendid with views across the city and on to the Caspian. We are on the 8th floor [of 15] and as the block is near the top of a ridge the views are extensive. The real name of the the block is “Wellington Heights” but taxi drivers know it as “Bellington”. Louie and I found that out after our taxi driver took 20 minutes to do a 5 minute drive. When we finally directed him back home he exclaimed “ah, Bellington!”
We are still awaiting our stuff from Windhoek, so it is rather like living in a hotel but a very comfortable hotel so no complaints there.
As I write this [no Internet at home yet either], I am listening to “Ghost Riders In The Sky” as I sit in the very comfortable Baku Roasting Company cafe. It is more intimate than Starbucks and they serve damn good coffee!
The old city is full of charm so here are a few images:
This is an image of the iconic Maiden Tower. It was probably a signal tower but it has many legends associated with it.
And here I am. On the audio trail around the old city:
So, it begins.
